Casual gaming is a term used to describe any game that is simple enough to learn how to play in a few moments and offers a satisfying gaming session that can last as little as one or two minutes. While casual computer games like Mindsweeper, Solitaire and Mah Jong have been around for decades, the genre has absolutely exploded in recent years. An increasing number of gaming developers have realized that casual games represent the key to engaging the elusive demographic of female gamers, as well as older players and busy professionals. With the meteoric rise of casual social games like Zynga's Farmville and Mafia Wars on FaceBook, casual gaming is beginning to play a large role in how even the most casual internet user spends his or her time online.
